Fun Things To Do With Your Kids Before Heading Back To School

Blogs & Articles / Fun Things To Do With Your Kids Before Heading Back To School

School is approaching quickly. Figuring out schedules, back to school shopping, and meeting teachers consumes the lives of back to schoolers. Once school starts there is a lot less time to enjoy family time. Busy schedules, sports, and even work gets in the way of family time. In the meantime, make the most of your summer vacation by making memories with the time you have left. There are several day trips that can be taken to make sure that your kids, as well as yourself, are enjoying the precious time that is left. Here are 6 activities that can be done before school starts:

  1.     Lagoon

Lagoon, located in Farmington, Utah, is a for sure winner with kids. They love the excitement and you will love watching your kids be curious about what will happen next! With rides tailored to every age, you can be sure that your kindergartener and your high schooler will enjoy themselves. Make sure to pair up! Going with an even number of people seems to be the best when going to Lagoon, so that everyone has a partner for rides. They offer food, or you can save money by bringing your own. The gift shops are also fun to visit.

  1.     The Zoo

The zoo is a fun and exciting place to visit. If you have not done this yet this summer, I encourage you to go and see the wonderful animals that they have. Children love seeing animals and watching them do animal things! Not to mention, it allows everyone to get the physical exercise needed to build confidence.

  1.     Go on a picnic

Going on a picnic is a simple and cheap way to spend time with your kids. They will be excited to eat outside on a blanket, and parents can enjoy some fresh air. Let your children help you pack for an added bonus of fun! They can bring their favorite toy, if they are younger, and share the fun with them. The great thing about a picnic is that you get to chaos the place you go. Whether it is in your front yard, in a park, or part of a nature walk, you can do all of this without leaving your hometown.

  1.     Local Splash Pad

A great, and free, option for a summer activity would be to take your kids to the local splash pad. In Evanston, Wyoming, we have one at our beautiful Hamblin Park. The kids can get soaked running through the water and parents can feel like a winner of fun. As parents, you can sit on the sidelines and watch, or join in and make some long lasting memories!

  1.     Have a movie marathon

Want to stay home and out of the heat? There are many things at home that can be done to take advantage of the summer time! Spend a day watching movies. Everyone can pick a favorite movie of their own, or you can pick a series to enjoy together. Get some snacks, blankets, and get comfortable. There is little to no money needed and your children will enjoy the time they get with their parents.

  1.     Night games

So much fun can be had in your backyard, or at a local park. Night games will allow the kids to feel special for being out in the dark, and you can create memories with your children by playing games with them. Buy some glow sticks from the dollar store and play some night games! Some games that are fun to play at night include Marco Polo, blob tag, capture the flag, flashlight tag, ghost in the graveyard, or get creative and create your own game!

Let’s go out there and enjoy our time with our children before the schedules and chaos starts. They will be grateful for the time, and you will be thankful for the memories. Create a new family tradition that will likely continue with their children. Have fun out there!
